And yet, why Erekle II? You might wonder. Let’s get to know “Little Kakhi” better (this is how Georgian people refer to the chosen king as an expression of respect and love, as Kakheti is the part of Georgia which was his home and where most of the wine and vine comes from).

According to one of the legends, it was King Erekle II to whom Beethoven dedicated the famous Ninth Symphony (no matter how unlikely it may sound, the fact of its existence already says a lot). It is worth mentioning that the British press would often refer to him as one of the most influential princes in Asia, who fought tirelessly for the liberation of Georgia, and call him the Georgian Prince Heraclius, while Georgia was referred to as one of the most powerful countries in the world. Such references date back to 1752. King Erekle II’s name is associated with the defeat of Erzurum Pasha with an army of 50 thousand warriors.
Not surprisingly, the Western society perceived him as one of the most important strategic partners in Eastern Europe. They knew full well that the Georgian king was fighting unceasingly to preserve the Western civilization and Christian values.
King Erekle initially ruled over Kakheti only, and later – over Kartli-Kakheti. People called him Little Kakhi to express their love and respect.
